Five Tips From Lisa For Decorating Your Home This Spring!

Mon, Mar 13, 2023

Hey everyone! Lisa here, to share with you some of my best Spring decorating tips as an interior designer! With the holidays over, everyone is decluttering and in the mood for a little change. This is the time to get our homes fresh and vibrant. After all, refreshing your space is the perfect way to set the vibe for spring fun!

Spring is the perfect season for inspiration and creativity. I love taking walks around the yard and parks when the weather is warmer, and thinking of all the  interior design details for our next vacation rental! During these musings, I think about all the home décor trends I'd seen in magazines and on Pinterest. So with that being said, I'd like to share these five spring trends to help you find inspiration in your home.

Use Curved Furniture to Add Flare

Looking at the many home-style magazines on the coffee table, I noticed a trend in furniture - decorators are using round-edged couches and chairs to add style to their rooms. This might not seem so obvious to everyone else, but designers love adding uniquely shaped coffee tables to their space, and I think that it is a perfect way to add some ‘pizzaz’ to any room! Personally, I love how the coffee tables make a discussion piece and soften up the space of a room. Round-back leather couches and chairs also make a den warm and inviting!

I think adding these pieces has the added benefit of changing ho-hum to more fun. Even if you don't want to overhaul an entire room, adding a piece of furniture like this will spice things up!

Don’t Be Afraid to Add a Splash of Color

When I think of spring, I think of colors. Imagine all of the flowers that start to bloom and the trees that are budding! Here in Southern California it’s just getting into full swing. Everywhere I look, I find inspiration in the pastels; so since the spring blooms are around the corner, so are the colors of new growth. Their light blues and soothing greens look amazing on walls and fabrics. These colors are an important part of any interior decorator’s pallet!

Place a calming green pillow on your neutral couch. You won’t regret it! Using soft green accents has the added benefit of creating a calming effect. I like to add these colors to a room not just by painting but with pillows, rugs, accent pieces, and furniture. These subtle pastels help make the space soft. This is especially true when mixed with neutrals that always stay in style. A pastel throw over your couch or chair adds accent and warmth on chilly spring nights!

Bring the Outside in With Greenery

With this beautiful weather, I have been out enjoying nature. Everyone is bringing the outdoors inside this spring. Try using wall prints and fabrics to bring greenery into the house. Greenery and flowers are nothing new for spring. House plants are certainly one way of bringing nature inside. But I’ve noticed a trend toward seeing them in a different form. They are coming back in fabrics, pictures, and wall prints. I recommend nature-inspired artwork, floral patterns, or pillows; this is a great way to create ambiance in a previously stale space!

Textured Furniture

Has anyone else noticed how wicker and Rattan furniture sets are making their way inside homes and on patios? I love how these pieces add texture to a room and give it a beach feel, they are perfect both in and outside of the home. Adding texture to furniture, light fixtures, and other accents will bring your room together. Leather pieces also never go out of style and add texture to your spaces and are perfect for a casual feel in a space!

Bedroom Makeovers

While perusing Pinterest and Instagram, I noticed that bedroom makeovers are all the rage right now. After all, who doesn’t love sleeping in a bedroom fit for kings and queens? Walking through stores, I saw displays layered in the bedroom with luxury. Seating areas, rugs, drapes, and lots of texture are appearing in the bedroom. I am so excited about rich layers making your room a sanctuary! Taking the time to make your room a space you love has so many benefits, and it will bring a sense of peace, relaxation, and overall calm.

I am drawn to home décor because there are no rules - the only rule is to create something that you’ll enjoy. Absorb everything from magazines to Pinterest and beyond. I tell everyone, “don't stress over an entire house, you can freshen a space with only a couple of changes.” Try adding some pillows or wall pieces to add a new feel, a rug or decorative throw can make an entire room feel different! Remember, your home should make you comfortable, happy, and inspired; so have some fun with it!
