Meet Lisa: The Creative Force Behind Meet The Hunters

Hey there, it’s Lisa here this month serving up a new blog! It’s been a little bit since we’ve done an introduction (January ‘23), so with so many new faces, I knew this was the perfect direction to take the blog this month! Whether you’re a longtime friend or you’re just discovering us for the first time as one of our guests and connections, I’m excited to give you a glimpse into what’s been keeping me busy lately.
I get asked all the time, “so, what do you do?” - a daunting question everyone usually dreads to answer. I’ll admit I once was that girl who knew my purpose was to be a mom. I took that role as ‘Hunter Family Coordinator’ seriously! Not to be biased or anything, I think everyone has turned out great. Don’t get me wrong, being able to be around for all my kids’ and husband’s ‘big moments’ was and still is such a blessing. But as any woman navigating her 40s knows, you begin to also search for new ways to grow! Oftentimes, the career and revenue portion of your life can dictate the direction the growth needs to go. For me the details and design have always inspired that.
Let’s rewind a bit, shall we? My design journey started right at home, literally. Picture Matt and me, 20-year-old, wide-eyed and eager, tackling DIY projects in our very first place. Ah, those were the days of sponge painting bathrooms and getting creative on a shoestring budget. Fast forward through the years, and my style has evolved like a fine wine—always improving with time. I firmly believe that just as life evolves, so should our homes. As a mom to two amazing kids—Cole, the college sophomore, and Avery, who’s about to embark on her senior year in a few short months—I understand the importance of a home that grows with your family. From Fisher-Price toys scattered across the floor to designing spaces that cater to our ever-changing needs, it’s been quite the journey. And let’s not forget about our Airbnb business! Juggling family life and managing multiple properties keeps us on our toes, but having a home base that feels like, well, home, is non-negotiable. In early 2021, we took a leap of faith and dove headfirst into renovating our very own cabin. We refer to this little slice of heaven as ‘The Den.’ It’s located in Running Springs, California. It was a labor of love that sparked something within me—a passion for creating spaces that tell a story. From Vista Lago to The Clubhouse, each project has been a testament to our dedication and love for design. What started as a hobby has blossomed into a thriving business, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
When people ask me how I got into the Design aspect of our business it truly came from our guests. I would receive messages long after guests had left asking me questions about where I got furniture, design details and then the question that changed it all, ‘can you make my home look like yours?’ And the rest is history! I think that's what all the gurus mean when they say find something you love. I truly just started it as a love, a hobby, and a passion, and now it has flourished into a huge successful piece of our real estate portfolio. Not only do we help with single room designs but Matt and I have tackled full build projects, full renovation projects, landscaping and outdoor land development, dining rooms, accent walls and everything in between. There is no project too big or too small and that comes from our clients simply just loving the work that we do. I most definitely have a ‘style’ to all my design work so any project of any size is so fun to me!

So, what’s a typical day in the life of Lisa Hunter like? Well, it’s a beautiful chaos of managing guest communications for our rentals, running a household, supporting Matt in his ventures, and of course, nurturing my own design business. From bidding on new projects to shopping for the perfect accent pieces, no two days are ever the same. But hey, I wouldn’t have it any other way! A typical day usually starts out with coffee and breakfast and getting Avery off to school. After that, I love to get my morning workout in, Matt and I have made this a priority in our everyday routines for the last few years now and we’ve noticed such a change in our mental and physical health! After the gym sesh, I head home to make breakfast and then it’s off to get ready for the day and dive into work! Whether it’s managing our clients at our properties, meeting with a client on a new project, shopping for interior details, on the road at one of the properties we like to still fill our days towards our career ventures. Then depending on the day or week it’s either off to a school activity or work function. We try to still get out and meet new people and network. If you would ask me what a perfect night would be it would either involve a girls' night out with my best friends OR if I’m really lucky a date night with Matt!
I get asked quite often, “where do I get my inspiration from and my design ideas” and the truth is I really combine functionality, modern design and taste and quite honestly trusting my gut and my own taste. It’s never proved me wrong and it’s produced some incredible projects and opportunities since I really started to grow my business this past year and a half. I really take pride in getting to know not only the people who will be filling the space, the goals and dreams for the look and feel of the space, the process and budget. I really want people to see that elevating your spaces doesn’t have to be hard or complicated, it can be enjoyable too. You don’t have to have the zip code 90210 to be able to hire a designer for your home but you can have a home that looks like it belongs in the hills.
Now, if you’re wondering how to work with me, it’s simple—just fill out our intake form, and we’ll take it from there. Whether you need help with design, room layout, or personal shopping, I’ve got you covered. Each project is a unique opportunity to weave magic into spaces that reflect your individual style while staying true to mine. As I sign off, I want to express my gratitude to each and every one of you who has supported us on this journey. Your kind words and encouragement mean the world to us. Stay tuned for more design adventures, behind-the-scenes peeks, and maybe even a few DIY tips along the way. The best way to see what I’m up to is to follow our social accounts! Until next time, happy designing!
