Three Tips for Spring Break in Lake Havasu City

Tue, Jan 31, 2023

Lake Havasu City is a popular destination for spring break for families and college students. From the lake life to the busy downtown, it turns into a party town for part of March and April making it the perfect spot for a fun time before the summer!

Lake Havasu City is very busy during spring break, but the visit is worthwhile; in fact, it was voted the Best West Spring Break Destination in 2022! Since you can drive there from Phoenix, Las Vegas, or Los Angeles, it has become quite a popular spot in the past several years. The weather also plays a role, as it’s not insanely hot. It averages about 75 to 100 degrees this time of year, which for some of the Northern states makes it a very attractive destination to get them through the last stages of the cold weather. Matt and I have been going there for years since our kids were little. We tend to avoid the party spots. Instead, we have fun by doing our own things, as there is plenty to do in Lake Havasu City other than the lake and partying. So for any families weary of avoiding louder locations, you don’t have to worry about that!

What to Do in Lake Havasu City

Lake Havasu City has plenty of good beaches and coves to explore. Some of the local hikes range from simple trail walks to more difficult hikes. But regardless, our kids love to swim, tube, and wakeboard in the water when it’s not too busy. The town also has great spots for spring breakers who want to party. McCulloch Blvd, the main street, is filled with bars, restaurants, and shops - a very popular area for spring breakers.

If you are looking for some great bars and restaurants while visiting this spring, Kokomo’s is a popular spot. This bar is down by London Bridge and the Channels. The atmosphere is like a giant party with music and a pool. It even has views overlooking the lake. For some other bar & pub type of bars, BJ’s Cabana Bar and Flying X Saloon are also very popular! Some other of our favorite restaurants are ChaBones, College Street Brewhouse, and The Red Onion. You can also use the Lake Havasu Dining Guide to find some local restaurants to enjoy.

The Flying Saloon

This is the perfect time of the year for outdoor activities as you can still comfortably have a fire at night or enjoy the outdoors; this would normally be more difficult to do in the summer since it gets so hot outside. Take advantage of activities like golfing and hiking, and the SARA Park! We also get a lot of guests from around the country, many of whom haven’t yet been able to enjoy the local scenery. Just North East of us, you can drive about three hours from Vista Lago and visit the Grand Canyon National Park - it makes the perfect place to go on a day trip with your family and friends.

Why Vista Lago Is the Perfect Location for Spring Break

Vista Lago stands out as the perfect location within the town. It is conveniently located, as it is close to the bridge and the lake. You won’t have to travel far to enjoy many of the cities' entertainment! Lake Havasu City is fairly large, in some parts it could take up to twenty minutes to drive to the water. Fortunately for you, Vista Lago is only about five minutes from the lake and downtown.

On top of that, when you get back to Vista Lago from a day at the lake, you still have plenty of things to do. You feel as if you are in a resort with a pool, spa, outdoor games, fire pit, and lake views from the deck while sitting in the comfort of privacy. Matt and I love sitting on the deck and enjoying the sunset with a cold drink in hand!

Be sure to message us and get all of the information that you need!

Tip #1 - Take Advantage of Boat Rentals

It is easy to enjoy the lake in Lake Havasu City even if you don’t have a boat. But if you want the full experience, you must take advantage of the lake. You can easily rent boats of all types from plenty of different places. Rent a boat, kayak, or paddleboard. There are also incredibly popular cabana boats available. Cabana boats don’t have a motor and just sit in the channel, so you don’t have to worry about driving them. They are set up to be party barges and have couches and chairs. Regardless of what type of boat you decide to rent, you won’t regret enjoying a day on the water!

Tip #2 - Work Ahead Of The Crowd

Keep in mind that Lake Havasu City gets very busy during spring break. So, you will have to plan ahead and get on the water early if you don’t want to be stuck in a line. The boat launches and ramps get full fast, but planning can get you to the front of the line. No one likes to feel like their fun is being put on hold!

Tip #3 - Be Safe And Responsible

Spending spring break in Lake Havasu City is fun, but you should be prepared so you can enjoy yourself. You are likely to spend a lot of time on the lake. So, be sure to bring food, drinks, and plenty of sunscreen. A good tip is to also bring along a trash bag to have available for everyone around you, that way no trash gets lost in the water. We also ask all of our guests to be respectful of the town and locals. Remember that this small town gets incredibly busy during spring break!

We hope to see you stay with us at Vista Lago so that you can enjoy a fun, relaxing, and safe Spring Break in Lake Havasu City!
